Stutter Strong This Summer — Confidence Starts Here
A week-long intensive fluency camp for kids and teens who stutter
What is stuttering?
Stuttering is a "dysfluency" that disrupts the flow of speech, commonly appearing during a vocabulary burst between ages 2 and 5. It involves syllable repetitions, sound prolongations, or silent blocks. While the exact cause is unclear, it is linked to how the brain coordinates speech muscles and often has a genetic component.
Consult a speech-language pathologist (SLP) if the stuttering is frequent, worsening, or accompanied by physical tension (like facial grimacing). Other warning signs include the child avoiding speaking, swapping words to avoid tripping up, or showing signs of vocal strain. If these behaviors persist as the child enters school, the risk of social embarrassment and teasing increases.
While many children stop stuttering by age 5, persistence is a significant reality. If dysfluency continues into the elementary school years, it is much more likely to become a long-term challenge. You should not assume it will disappear on its own if the child is over age 5, has a family history of stuttering, or demonstrates significant facial tension, or communication discomfort; in these cases, SLP intervention is usually necessary to manage the disorder.

How will this help my child?

Our Stutter Strong camp is led by a licensed SLP and designed for all ages. Whether your child is 6 or 16, they'll leave with practical tools, stronger self-advocacy, and the confidence to speak up.
